A Finish and Cross Stitch Progress from The Cozy Quilter

TaDa!  This quilt top was made at a Vice President's day quilting day at Oxford Quilter's Guild at least 3 years ago.  The idea behind VP day is to work on a simple pattern chosen by the VP that can be finished in one day. I found the top in my UFO drawer and took it to one of my retreats in November where I pieced the back, pin basted it and did 3/4 of the quilting.  This week, I finished the quilting and added an orange solid for the binding.  This will go in the baby ...

A Handful of Smaller Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I thought I would have more quilts to share today but I ran out of prepared quilt labels.
I will have lots more to share once I get them labeled!

You might feel like you have already seen this little quilt.  I did share its twin a few weeks ago.  I received two of these happy quilt tops from Kristin.  She also sent in this lovely pink butterfly flannel backing.

Yes, we STILL have some Happy Blocks to work through.  This one is all about bugs and crawly things.  I had this really thick gray fleece, and I wanted to ...

Kissing Fish Baby Quilt from Modern Sunbonnet Sue

I started this baby quilt back in February with the plan of giving it to my best friend’s son & wife at their baby shower. I did finish the top, but didn’t have time to get it quilted. I sent it out to my long-armer, Rhonda, to quilt. I prepare special labels for my baby […]

Butterflies sewn................. from Exuberant Color

It turned out to not be as difficult as I thought it would be to assemble this quilt top.  There were 4 partial seams.  I added 3" strips all around so the butterflies would be surrounded by background fabric.  It is 35" x 45".  I'll check so see if I have enough of any of the bright prints for the backing.

The yellow Coneflower bloom is finally opened.  We don't have any frost or freeze warnings at night for the next week so maybe another of the buds has a chance to bloom.

The plant has grown so ...

Sections sewn.............................. from Exuberant Color

It was time to jump in and start piecing sections of the butterfly quilt.  I'm just winging it so far and haven't pressed any sections yet.

I pieced more sections and then it came to a standstill while I stared at it and tried to decide how to sew the center section.  I think there will be some partial seams to sew it all together.  I need to press all of the sections that are sewn so I can accurately measure the spaces.

I went outside to check on some plants yesterday afternoon.  The Lenten Rose plants are ...

More Children's Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Lots of quilts for kids are still flowing through the pipeline.

This fun little transportation quilt is one of the tops donated by Kristin.  It is all flannel so it will keep a small kid toasty.

The plaid backing was gifted by Janet.  I think she sent 6 or 8 yards, so I loaded up the entire piece onto my longarm and just added quilt top after quilt top.

This quilt measures about 39" x 42"

Jenny sent in this colorful fish quilt top. It was quilted the same time the quilt above was done.  This is such a quick ...

Little butterflies................... from Exuberant Color

It took 2 hours to sew 30 Broken Dishes Hourglass blocks, 2" finished size.  This is a possible layout.  I'll know more after I start assembling parts of it.  There will be spacers of the same background fabric between the 'little butterflies'.

I spent an hour with garden clean up yesterday.  It was cool enough that I needed a jacket.  There were quite a few branches to pick up as well as pulling out the spreading bellflowers and goldenrod.  I think I'll go out and clip the dead flower stalks on the hostas this year.  I read you ...

Pesto Mushrooms from Sew Preeti Quilts

I have a new finish and I am so excited to show it to you!

Meet Pesto Mushrooms :-)

Pesto Mushrooms

When I was asked to make a Birthday Quilt for a 6-year old boy who loves the color Green and is fascinated with Mushrooms, I said Yes, please :-D

The Pesto (Green Fabrics) was the easy part.  I wasn't sure how to incorporate mushrooms.

Pieced or Appliqued? Small or Large? A mix of large portabellas and tiny enokis?

I turned to EQ8 and found a template for mushroom applique.  BINGO!!!! In EQ8, the dots are applique as well. I ...

Another old WIP....................... from Exuberant Color

I posted this photo in 2008 and mentioned that I had made the blocks a couple years before that.  There was a line of fabrics by SSI that was called Kid Stuff. I have a large collection of these fabrics plus some others that go well with them.  I have considered putting them in a de-stash sale and I think I have a plan for how much of it I need to keep now.

I took a new photo of the completed blocks.  I need to come up with a plan and get these made into a baby quilt with ...

Nico's "Child's Play" Quilt from Colleen's Quilting Journey

Nico has a "Moss Green" nursery.  I searched through my quilt fabrics to find something that fit that color scheme.  The fabric line is Child's Play with Kate and Nate by Sheri Berry Designs.  This fabric collection was the closest I had to Moss Green.  It is a really cute boy fabric.
The white section looked a little empty, so I added leaves.  I also like the quilting around the blocks.
The fabric I had for the back was just as cute as the fabric I had for the front.  I like to do a scallop quilt pattern in ...

The apples did not fall far from the tree from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I've been totally lazing in bed this morning and not getting my butt up to write the blog! It's OK to be lazy every once in a while.

My presentations went well yesterday, except that I brought the WRONG cable for the projector, so I had to run out at lunch time to buy a new one. That irks me as I have plenty of these cables at home. So it's a lesson, don't just grab and put in the bag - double check the ends! I have no one to blame but myself.

At the end ...

Small Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been pushing a number of baby quilts through the pipeline to increase the number of quilts we are able to donate to Bags of Love.  I will be delivering 25 quilts tomorrow.

This first quilt top was made by Penny.  She has been cleaning out her flannel stash and making a bunch of strip quilts.  This type of quilts uses up a lot of those width of fabric leftovers.  She also sent the backing and the binding.

This quilt measures about 40 x 42".

(The young lady behind the post is Lecretia.  She has also been helping out ...

Design Wall Monday - September 16, 2024 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!

This week has been semi-productive, so I haven't much to show you.  Plenty to tell you though.

Remember back in the spring, when I showed you the start of a first quilt a friend of mine worked on while at my house?  I blogged about Elise (Here)  She has since moved from Grand Rapids to Muskegon, and I haven't seen her for a while.  But here is the picture and text that I received from Elise today:

"Finally done! Finished the binding by hand last night.  Wanted to say thank you so, so much for ...

Kid Quilts from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been pumping a number of smaller kid quilts into the pipeline in preparation for our year end donations to Bag of Love.  I did take a small donation to them earlier this month so I could confirm what they anticipate their needs will be.  Their greatest need this year are infant and teen quilts.

Here are a few that were completed this week.

Here is another quilt top made by Chris.  I really like all these simple tops made from bright colors.

Love this bright orange backing sent in by Suzanne.
And a big thanks to Penny for ...

Design Wall Monday - September 9, 2024 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!

The baby quilt is quilted, and ready to send off to the new baby.  I cheated:  instead of quilting it myself and dealing with the stretchy flannel back, I took it to a friend and she did a wonderful job!  Much better than I would have done!

And it is finished.  Here are a few pictures:

First, the complete quilt.

Second, a square up close, the turtle:

The back side showing the butterfly quilting.  So cute!

My next UFO that has been pulled out is a quilt kit.  Pictured below:

It is part of the Marcus “Collection ...

Design Wall Monday - August 5, 2024 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!

The 3-in-1 Bowtie UFO box progress:

(1) I finished sewing all the creamy white backgrounds/vintage fabric bow ties into blocks, and am now deciding if I want to set them with an alternate square, or just sew them together as they are.  Thinking on this.  I saw a bowtie quilt with a dark alternate square that I liked….but am still undecided.

(2) My former skirt fabric and solid red bowtie blocks are all sewn together into a quilt top.  The blocks finish at 5 inches, and it is 9x9, so it is 45” by 45 ...

Blocks for RSC from The Cozy Quilter

This seemingly messy pile of fabric is actually the makings of a baby quilt!  I took this picture when I had all the parts cut out and piled by my sewing machine, ready to sew. In the pile, are 12 of the 6.5" square crumb blocks in different colours for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge from last year.  I have four sets of these blocks and decided to use each set in a different setting to make four baby quilts.  The one I made previously was made up of star blocks.

This time I am making churn dash blocks.  I ...

The Finished Baby Boy Quilt and Free-Cut Strips from Quilty Folk

The baby quilt is all done finally. It's bound, washed and even has a label! The binding was the last little detail to get figured out and luckily I had the perfect fabric waiting in the wings. On its own, it was an uninspiring piece of fabric, but for the purposes of this quilt? Just what was needed.

Grandsons baby quilt is done!
I struggled with this quilt all along. Mostly because baby quilts can be difficult for me these days. There's just no room for expanding on the original idea and that just feels a little suffocating ...

Baby Quilt Done! from The Cozy Quilter

A few months ago, I dug into my flannel scraps and made a flannel vortex baby quilt top in an effort to tame the flannel scrap bin.  I ended up with a quilt top and a still full to overflowing flannel scrap bin.  Sigh...  This week, I finished off the quilting using this nifty attachment to keep my curved lines equidistant from each other as I sewed.  It worked really well!  I found some red Kona to use for the binding and now this quilt is in my baby quilt storage area, ready to give away when a baby comes ...

A Busy Week from The Cozy Quilter

Ta Da!  My Put a Ring On It is done!  I took this class during QuiltCon Together in February 2021 with Latifah Saffir, using her clammy rulers.  I had the top done reasonable quickly but could not decide how I wanted to quilt it.  This quilt kept telling me to hand quilt it, which I ignored until this Spring.  By then, it was screaming to be hand quilted so I got to work.  I used 28 wt Aurifil thread in green for the big stitch quilting.  I'm really happy with this project! I will be hanging it on the ...
